I have chosen
the topic of “equity” in the early childhood field. Equity covers a number of issues in the early
childhood field and it will be difficult to narrow this topic down into an area
of research, but I gather the task will be completed shortly for another
assignment for class. I chose the topic
of equity because it is a topic/issue that I have been passionate about for
sometime. The aspects of equity that
interest me most are equity in the availability of quality early childhood
programs for all children and equity for early childhood teachers in the
education system. By this I mean all
children should have access to quality early childhood programs regardless of
anything (race, finances, culture, etc.) and that qualified early childhood
professionals should be recognized and acknowledged for their role in
education.
I feel the
research simulation for this class will be beneficial in how I approach the
early childhood field. It will affect
how I observe, gather information, and how I apply that information in whatever
I am doing in the field.
I believe that
each of us has something to offer in the field no matter how great or how
small. A mentor I had when I first began
in the field once told me to take everything people give you…advice,
curriculum, information, tools, personal secrets…keep it all, because one day
it might be useful. She was right!
Sometimes we do not understand what we have been given until we reach a stage
in our professional career when that which we have received becomes relevant to
us as an individual. We are each a
resource in our own way.
Crystal,
ReplyDeleteI too am very passionate about the topic of equity in the field of early childhood. Have you already taken the class, Issues and Trends? If not let me know. I have some great articles on equity within the field. I would be happy to share them with you.
I will be excited to see and hear which aspect of equity you choose to focus on..
Great Post!

Crystal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that all children deserve a quality early childhood education program regardless of race, finances, culture, etc!! I believe the only way to address the issue of equity in early childhood education is to provide all children the same high quality learning experiences in all communities. If we create a system that has standards for what defines high quality care then all children we have a better chance in receiving equal quality care.
Hi Crystal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that equality in Early Childhood Education is very important. I love your comment "By this I mean all children should have access to quality early childhood programs regardless of anything (race, finances, culture, etc.) and that qualified early childhood professionals should be recognized and acknowledged for their role in education." Early Childhood Education needs to taken more seriously by local, state, and federal officials. They are the ones who are constantly cutting funding from vital programs that allow children access to quality education and from programs that allow teachers to further their education to help them provide a quality curriclum. This is a passion of mine and one of the reasons I chose Public Policy and Advocacy as my major. Thank you for your great post!
